How long is the Course?
Each Course is between 12-14 weeks in length. Each Course contains 10 weeks of online lessons, with 2x in-person Instructor Camps totalling 8 days.
What are the dates for the upcoming Course?
The dates and locations for the upcoming Courses are listed on the webpage here. The majority of the Course is virtual, with 2x in person Camps. Please look carefully at the locations for the Camps.
If I have a change of circumstances, can I cancel my space on the Course?
Once booked, you can cancel your place on the Course at any time.
Refunds are subject to terms and conditions agreed to at the time of booking:
Deposit: there is a 7 day cooling off period within which you can cancel and get your deposit refunded. After this cooling off period, the deposit is non-refundable.
Remaining balance: Refundable within 90 days or more before the start of the course, minus 2% admin fee. In the case of cancellation occurring less than 90 days before the start of the course, the balance is non-refundable. Alternatively, you can defer your place to another Instructor course, if we are notified within a 30 day period of the course starting, or transfer your place on the course in question to someone else at the Head Instructor's discretion.
Why does the June 2026 Course cost more than previous Instructor Courses?
Previous Instructor Courses in 2024 and 2025 were discounted as a new offer from Scurry Dog. The June 2026 Course price still represents 45% discount on the final price of the Course (£2750).
Head Instructors Aleks and Clare have taken our 15 years+ of combined experience teaching dogs and people, and the success of our Scurry Dog Games for hundreds of dogs and handlers, and turned this into a new format for you as dog professionals to be able to take the thrill and everyday benefits of Scurry Dog to your clients!
Our Course is rooted in years of real-world gundog experience, adapted to suit pet dogs of all breeds and backgrounds. The comprehensive Course materials, in person tuition, and tailored 1:1 support equip you with extensive tools and applied practical experience. Our network of qualified Instructors are already taking Scurry Dog to their clients across the UK! Our rapidly growing Instructor Community will support you every step of the way, unlocking a close knit community of like minded Instructors to help you and your business grow.
What do I need to do to pass the Course?
To pass the Course, you need to attend both of the in person Camps, as well as 4 out of the 5 online Lessons.
You also need to pass three parts to the assessment. The assessments are:
1) Train a dog to Level 2 in each of the five Games (practical)
2) Plan for a Taster Workshop (written)
3) Teach a Level 1 exercise (practical)
The Course prepares you for each of these assessments, with written and practical support on hand for all of them.
Do I need to have a background in gundog training to be an Instructor?
No, you do not need to have any prior experience of gundog-specific training to come on our Course.
What training approach does Scurry Dog take?
Scurry Dog aims to improve overall quality of life for dogs and their owners, as well as their relationship. This is best achieved by making sure that the process of learning is fun, inspires a sense of safety and predictability, and is clear and effective. Scurry Dog as a dog sport does not promote or use any aversives. We aim to create an inclusive community of trainers based on a passion for improving the lives of owners and dogs, and governed by kindness, open-mindedness and mutual respect.
Who teaches the Course?
As co-founders and Head Instructors of Scurry Dog, we (Clare Davies, Bound Ahead Dog Training and Aleksandra Borawska, Synchro Dog Training) have already helped hundreds of dogs and their owners across the UK discover the joy and excitement of our sport.
With over 15 years experience training dogs and people between us, we built Scurry Dog with a structured and reward-based approach that gives owners the tools to train with confidence and clarity and dogs the chance to shine. Our established network of qualified Instructors in the UK and internationally is growing by the month.
What certification do I get?
On successfully completing the course you will get a certificate to confirm completion. After graduating the course, you can pay a membership fee to become an Accredited Scurry Dog Instructor, when you will be able to teach Scurry Dog and hold Scurry Dog events.
What happens once I qualify?
When you pass the course, you will be able to become an Accredited Instructor. Our membership community for Accredited Scurry Dog Instructors provides you with extra support and is focussed on your growth and development.

Do I need a dog to take part in the Course?
You will need to have access to a dog you can train, to be able to complete the assessments to pass the Course. To pass the Course you will need to train a dog to Level 2 in each of the 5 Games. The dog you train for this can be your own dog, or a family, friend or client's dog. You do not need to use the same dog for all of the Games if not practical or possible.
It is helpful if you also have a dog you can bring to both of the Camps. The Camps are very practical and hands on training days to give you experience of the five Games, different exercises and games to build dog and handler skills towards the Games, and how to troubleshoot common issues,
What ability level does the dog need to be that I am using on the Course?
While any dog of any breed and ability can take part in and enjoy Scurry Dog, for you as a prospective instructor, it would be practical to take part with a dog who you already have a trust-based relationship with; a dog who has some previous experience of any kind of training; and a dog who has basic skills like being able to follow a lure, knowing a reward signal, and having some Foundation skills like sit and stay.
